Dr. Karin I Derfuss, CVA
Veterinarian, DVM , Practice Owner
Dr. Derfuss grew up in New Jersey. She received her B.S. in Animal Science in 1982 from Cook College at Rutgers University. She received her DVM in 1987 from Tusgkegee University School of Veterinary Medicine. In 2007 she became IVAS certified in veterinary acupuncture, and continues her studies in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, including Chinese herbal therapy, through the Chi Institute in Florida and IVAS. Dr. Derfuss practiced as an associate veterinarian for 3 years after graduation in a large group practice. After 6 years in a successful house call practice and working as a veterinary relief practitioner she opened The Branchburg Animal Hospital. Dr. Derfuss enjoys challenging surgical and medical cases, and will explore all avenues to take care of your pet's medical needs. She was the volunteer veterinarian and member of the board of trustees for the Plainfield Area Humane Society for 17 years. Dr. Derfuss believes that all pets deserve a chance and will work with each individual client to choose the right threatment for their special member of the family.
Dr. Amy Villano
Veterinarian, VMD
Dr. Villano was born and raised in central New Jersey. After receiving an undergraduate degree in Animal Science at Cook College, Rutgers University, she attended the University of Pennsylvania for veterinary school. Since receiving her veterinary medical degree, Dr. Villano worked as an associate veterinarian in small animal practices in Edison, Hillsboro, and Princeton. She finds small animal practice and rescue work very fulfilling. She enjoys spending free time with her friends and family, including her husband and her dog, Hazel. She also likes to ski, go to the beach, travel, and watch movies.
Dr. Erin Mayo, CVA
Veterinarian, DVM
Dr. Erin Mayo graduated from the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. She received her veterinary acupuncture and Chinese herbal certification from the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. In addition to her work at Branchburg Animal Hospital, she runs a house-call based business providing holistic services for companion animals in central New Jersey. She shares her home with two coonhounds and three cats and enjoys horseback riding, when she gets the chance!
VETERINARY TECHNICIANS
Nicole, CCRP
Veterinary Technician, Team Leader
Nicole obtained her Bachelors degree in Animal Science in May of 2003 from Rutgers University. Nicole joined our team in May of 2000. Nicole's responsibilities at Branchburg consist of performing dental prophylaxis, monitoring anesthesia, pre and postoperative care, phlebotomy, and other various duties. Nicole is a graduate of the University of Tenn. Rehabilitation program, and received her certification in 2005 .
Marie, LVT
Veterinary Technician
Marie graduated from Northhampton Community College with a degree as a Veterinary technician in 2005, She joined Branchburg Animal Hospital that same year.
Ruth Ann
Veterinary Technician
Ruth Ann has a BS in Small animal Science form Delaware Valley College. She re-joined the Branchburg Animal Hospital Staff in 2009. Ruth Ann is also a licensed rabbit judge with the American Rabbit Breed Association. The family enjoys flying together both Ruth Ann and her husband are licensed glider and small plane pilots.
Glen
Veterinary Technician
Always having some sort of animal fur stuck on his clothes as a kid, surely influenced Glen's choice to become a Veterinary Technician. Growing up, his family always had dogs, cats, and everything in between. He has used the past ten years of his life to help animals in some form or another. He began working at a kennel and at a local animal hospital. Each of these jobs has helped him to realize how rewarding being a Vet Tech can really be. He also received certification as a personal trainer from Middlesex County College. Dividing his time working at a gym in Greenbook as a personal trainer, and here, as a Vet Tech, allows him to have the best of both worlds. In his free time, he enjoys working out and martial arts. He also enjoys watching movies, playing video games and being with his family.

Janice
Client Care Coordinator, Team Leader
Janice has an AAS degree in Office Administration. Janice joined our team in December 2005. She has over 25 years of volunteer animal welfare experience and enjoys gardening and reading. Janice and her husband have three children, a daughter and identical twin sons. They share their home with two rescued mixed breed dogs Will and Grace.
Carlene
Though Carlene's varied background in film, entertainment, and marketing has provided her with many opportunities over the years, one fact has remained consistent, her absolute passion for animals. She is a professional pet sitter and has been an animal welfare volunteer in Hunterdon, Somerset, and Union counties. She is certified in Animal First Aid and CPR. In addition to her duties as a front desk receptionist, she is currently receiving on-the-job training as a Veterinary Assistant.
Terri
Terri previously worked for the US Postal Service, retiring in late 2009. She had become a client at Branchburg Animal Hospital several years ago after moving to Bridgewater and joined our team as a receptionist in January 2011. Terri has always shared her home with 2 or more cats and 2 or more dogs which sometimes fills her house with a bit of chaos.. but always her heart with a lot of love. Other than her interest in animal causes, she is passionate about environmental issues.
VETERINARY ASSISTANTS
Paola
Paola is currently finishing two Associate's degrees from Raritan Valley Community College in Biology and Accounting. She plans to attend college in pursuit of a BS in Animal Science. With enthusiasm, Paola is always looking forward to the next challenge. In her free time, she volunteers with Rawhide Rescue as a foster parent for dogs in need of homes. An amateur dog trainer and behaviorist, Paola has rehabilitated difficult cases into great highly adoptable dogs. She, her husband, and her three pooches have found forever homes for ten deserving dogs in the two years since she began fostering.
Michelle
Michelle is studying biology at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. She is the captain of the IHSA riding team and brings her horse, Kingston, to school with her. She has been working at Branchburg Animal Hospital every summer and during winter breaks since 2010. Most of her free time is spent with her horse or her family. Currently she is fostering three kittens that were brought to Branchburg Animal Hospital!
Laura
Laura is currently working at Branchburg Animal Hospital as an assistant and hopes to eventually work as a technician. She is majoring in Veterinary Technology at an online college called Penn Foster where she plans to earn her associates degree. She loves working with animals and enjoys working at Branchburg Animal Hospital.
