J Brent Rollins
Equine Veterinarian
Dr. Rollins is a 1967 graduate of Colorado State University where he received his DVM. He grew up in Phoenix, attending Osborn grade school, Washington High School and Arizona State University. His interest in horses came from his dad's Thoroughbred Racing Business (started on the end of a pitchfork and ended up with a trainer's license before Vet School).
After receiving his DVM, he served for three years as a captain in the US Army in Fort Detrick, MD. After the service, Dr. Rollins completed an Equine Internship at the University of California, Davis, Veterinary Teaching Hospital. In July 1971, he entered private equine practice in North Phoenix and has remained since. Twenty five of these years have been in a rewarding partnership with Dr. Clement, who retired in 2000. Dr. Rollins feels his greatest accomplishment is his family. Brent and Francie have been married since June 1st, 1963. They have five wonderful children and 14 grandchildren (at last count).
Martin G. Crabo, DVM
Equine Veterinarian
Dr. Crabo grew up in the Midwest, and as the son and grandson of veterinarians, had no trouble running the family's cattle, horse and crop farm during his high school years. Likewise, the decision to become a veterinarian was an easy one. After graduating from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990, Dr. Crabo completed an internship in Large Animal Medicine & Surgery at Washington State University. In July of 1991, Dr. Crabo joined Chaparral Animal Hospital. Dr. Crabo is married to Barbara, a horse trainer and riding instructor who loves three day eventing, dressage & show jumping. Together they have a baby girl named Jordan, 7 horses, 4 cats and 3 dogs on their "ranch," Four Peaks Farm. When the two of them get a rare chance to get away, the Crabos enjoy horse shows, scuba diving and snow skiing together. Professionally, Dr. Crabo's interests include general equine practice, equine sports medicine & lameness, and equine reproduction.
C. Renee Andrea, DVM, Dipl. ACVS
Equine Veterinarian
Surgery
Dr. Andrea joined Chaparral in December 2001, as the hospital's first board certified surgeon. She is a 1994 graduate of Washington State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, after which she completed an internship here in Arizona. She then spent three years at the University of California at Davis as a resident in equine surgery, where her area of research was in equine orthopedics. Dr. Andrea became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1999. Although she specializes in all areas of equine surgery and lameness, Dr. Andrea's major interests are in equine orthopedics, reconstructive surgery, and horses with acute abdominal disease. Dr. Andrea and her husband Mike Freeland reside in Desert Hills, Arizona. Together they enjoy a lot of outdoor activities, but most of their time is spent with 2 1/2 year old son, Canon, and taking care of the family's rope and barrel horses. Little brother, Shea, is to arrive in November.
Elaine Carpenter, DVM, MS, Dipl ACVS

Surgery
Dr. Carpenter is one of our board certified surgeons. Originally from Mammoth Lakes, California, she completed veterinary school at Louisiana State University and a one-year equine internship here in Phoenix at Arizona Equine Medical and Surgical Center. Following her internship, she embarked on a three-year large animal surgical residency at Colorado State University where she completed her masters degree in equine surgery. After becoming board certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, she spent three years as the staff surgeon at Peninsula Equine, a referral surgical facility in the San Francisco Bay area. With a board certification in surgery also comes a specialty in lameness. She enjoys working on those subtle or difficult to diagnose lamenesses and finds them very rewarding. In her spare time she enjoys a variety of outdoor activities including hiking and rock climbing.
Evelyn Kass-Williamson, DVM
Small Animal Veterinarian
A 1985 graduate of Purdue University's College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Williamson joined our practice in October 2001. She moved to the warmth and sunshine of Arizona six years ago after selling her practice in New Hampshire (brrr). Dr. Williamson is a small animal practitioner with special interests in internal medicine and dermatology. She spent her first five years in Arizona with a large corporate practice, where she was responsible for five hospitals. She then went on to practice as a relief veterinarian in her own business, filling in for many hospitals across the valley. After working in more than 20 different hospitals in the area, Dr. Williamson decided to once again "settle down." She joined Chaparral Animal Hospital where she could consistently practice the high quality medicine she enjoys!
Kimberly A. Gryl, DVM
Equine Veterinarian
Dr. Gryl is a 2004 graduate of the University of Illinois. She joined Chaparral Animal Hospital in June 2004. A die-hard horse lover, Dr. Gryl enjoys all aspects of equine veterinary practice. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with her German Shepherd, cat and 2 cockatiels.
Sherri Parmenter
Office Manager
Sherri has worked with animals most of her life. She has also worked as an administrative assistant for the last 10 years. Here at Chaparral, she brings together her love of animals with her skills in the office to help us run a smoother office to help with all your animal needs. In Sherri's free time she enjoys spending time with her husband of 19 years and their two boys. The family also includes 2 dogs and 2 cats.
Krystal Smith
Office Manager
Krystal is an Arizona native with an extreme love for animals. She has always loved animals, in fact she says "I took my first steps at Turf Paradise race track and have been an animal lover ever since." She now has a barnful of her own, including horses, cats and dogs. She is very excited to have found a career where she can be involved with animals and their caring owners too! Krystal takes every opportunity to further her knowledge of the profession, so much that sometimes we need to strap her to her receptionist's chair! Next time your at our office be sure to say hello, she will likely be the first smiling face you'll see.
Roberta Lopez
Equine Veterinary Assistant
Roberta grew up in Cortland, NY riding horses and tending to the occasional stray cat or dog. Later on, she studied child psychology and computers at NMSU in Alamogordo, NM. She moved to Phoenix in 1989 where she attended Long Medical Institute. Roberta is married to a wonderful husband (for 19 years) and is the mother of 2 beautiful children, she owns Brutus, an English Bulldog, and a French Lop named Sweeties Angel.
Kiley Brown
Equine Veterinary Assistant
Kiley has been at Chaparral Animal Hospital and working with Dr. Crabo since January, 2000. She is married to a very handsome man named Levi and they share a mini ranch that includes their horses, goat and dogs. Kiley loves being outside and enjoys laughing with some friends.
Farra Helmandollar
Equine Veterinary Technician
Farra originated from Alaska, having moved to Arizona in 1996. She spent 18 years freezing fingers / toes off and then moved to Arizona to unthaw. Once in Arizona, she achieved her BS degree from Arizona State University. Since Farra's graduation from ASU, she has continued her work as an equine anesthetist at Chaparral Animal Hospital. Farra is a very spirited individual, taking great enthusiasm in her work and her care of the animals. Farra's hobbies are collecting rescue animals from either the clinic or in the neighborhood. She has just recently acquired care of a 6 month old foal, born at the clinic. He is the love of her life! Farra's other hobbies are making sure those around her are either smiling or laughing, loving life to its fullest.
Crystal Yazzle
Equine Veterinary Technician
Crystal is an equine anesthetist at Chaparral Animal Hospital. She has lived here in Phoenix for the last 4 years. She went to school at Long's Technical College where she received a certificate for Veterinary Assistant. Crystal spends her weekends off going back to the Navajo Reservation and hanging out with family and friends
Juan Gabriel Ramirez
Equine Veterinary Technician
Gabriel is a former Veterinarian from Mexico. He graduated from UAAAN in 1999, and then practiced for 2 years in Monterrey, Mexico with hunter / jumpers. His interests include sports medicine, preventative care and on call. He enjoys sports, and was a former member of the Basketball team in college. He loves team roping and enjoys being around horses. He is also a farrier. He has been in love with horses since he was 8 years old. He joined Chaparral Animal Hospital in June, 2003 and feels that it is a great and wonderful experience. Gabriel is looking forward to obtaining his Veterinary License in the United States.
Amanda Smith
Equine Veterinary Technician
Amanda is a wonderful person with lots of youthful zest and an eagerness to learn. She strives daily to accomplish her goals of being a top equine technician as well as being a part of the surgery team. Amanda is well liked at Chaparral Animal Hospital due to her teasing friendly attitude. She takes great care of her ambulatory doctor and those clients / patients she comes into contact with. Amanda's hobbies are taking care of her family's racing thoroughbreds and roping off her fabulous palomino "Cody". She spends many hours conditioning and ground training yearling thoroughbreds who untimately go to sale.
Jim Grieco
Equine Veterinary Assistant
Jim joined Chaparral Animal Hospital on July 1, 2004 as the night technician. He is originally from Buffalo, New York. His experience with horses started in his teens working for his brother racing Harness Horses. For the next 15 years he owned, trained, and drove Standardbreds at various racetracks in New York, Pennsylvania, and Illinois. Jim moved here to Arizona in 1995 to be closer to his parents. He has 2 Great Danes named Scooby and Pepper, and is currently going to school full time for a degree in Conservation Biology.
Heather Gibbs
Small Animal Veterinary Technician
Heather was born and raised right here in Phoenix, Arizona. She has a son, two dogs, two birds, and a number of salt and freshwater fish. As long as Heather can remember she has had a deep love for animals, and as she has grown older she has gained a deep respect for them as well. This is why Heather decided to enroll in the Long Technical College's Veterinary Technician Program. Upon her graduation, Heather began her career in an alternative medicine veterinary office. Now she is continuing her ongoing education here at Chaparral Animal Hospital.
Rachel Moniz
Small Animal Veterinary Assistant
Rachel is a 26 year old native of Arizona. She lives in Phoenix with her husband of seven years and their two black labradors, Amos and Dewey. She has been a vet assistant for Chaparral since June of 2003. Rachel has been working towards her bachelors in Life Sciences with an emphasis on Ecology and Organismal Biology (wildlife biology) at ASU West. Her goal is to work with the Arizona Game and Fish Department doing research. Rachel is also a part time licensed real estate agent, who works with friends and family referrals. In her spare time, Rachel supports her husband's Deer Valley football team by attending games each week in the fall. She also spends time with her dogs, sisters, and several nieces and nephews.
Angie Koehne
Small Animal Veterinary Assistant
Angie has been an animal lover all of her life. As you would see if you saw her mini farm. Her husband and 2 boys operate a small horse boarding facility along with their own dogs, cats, goats, and ducks (or whatever she manages to bring home). Angie attended Apollo College to become a veterinary assistant and has been happily doing so at Chaparral since graduation. In her spare time, she and her family enjoy camping and trail riding with our horses, family and friends.
Sue Elsing
Receptionist
Sue has been a veterinary receptionist for over 10 years. She moved to Phoenix from Minnesota in October, 2002 with her husband, Jeff, and daughter, Jessica. Her life revolves around her 2 dogs - Khufu, a rambunctious 2 year old Pharaoh Hound, and Kita, a 5 year old yellow lab. She has a passion fo dogs.
Rebecca Frank
Receptionist
Rebecca is from Chicago, Illinois and moved to Arizona with her parents in 1995. She has always had animals. She currently has 2 dogs, Snickers is a 17 year old mixed breed and Gracie is a 4 month old white german shephard. She also has a 1/2 Arabian mare, Desi, who she competes with at western pleasure. She is currently enrolled in college but is unsure what she wants to major in. She previously worked at an Arabian breeding farm in Mesa doing general office work for 3 years. And then started at Chaparral Animal Hospital as a receptionist in 2003.
