ABOUT US Granite City Pet Hospital and Surgical Center was founded by Dr. Gerry Nelson and opened for business in October 25, 1982. It operated for 5 years in a leased space on 15th and Division St. At that time the staff consisted of Dr. Nelson and Sue Cheely, with Dr. Cheryl Wedin joining shortly after. In August of 1987 Granite City Pet Hospital and Surgical Center moved to a new hospital on south 7th St. We thought that we were planning for the future when that hospital was designed and constructed. We anticipated we would grow, but never thought we would outgrow the new facility. In September of 1996 we moved to our new-present facility on 2nd St. South. In may of 2000 Dr. Jeff Nelson bought the practice from his father Dr. Gerry Nelson starting the second generation of business ownership. We now have a staff of four Doctors of Veterinary Medicine and support staff of fourteen, which include certified veterinary technicians, receptionist, and business personel. We are very excited about our growth because it not only means that our Doctors and staff are doing a excellent job, but it also means that people really value their pets and are taking good care of their pets.
