Dr. Janet Batker

Veterinarian, DVM

Dr. Jan Batker earned her B.S. in Amimal Science from Penn State in 1976, where she was a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Team. She worked in the Standardbred Racehorse Industry at racetracks in the Northeast and in Pinehurst for 2 years before becoming a research associate at Duke University. She graduated in 1985 with the first class admitted to the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she was inducted into Phi Zeta, the honor society of Veterinary Medicine, and received the Iams Speaking Award. In 1986 Dr. Jan completed an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Georgia. She entered private practice the following year.
A staff veterinarian at Lillington Veterinary Hospital since 1996, Dr. Jan became Hospital Director in January of 2000. She is a member of American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association (NCAVMA), currently serving as the Publications Chair for the NCVMA. She is also the Secretary for the Alumni Society of the Veterinary School.

She lives in a log cabin with her 2 children, 2 dogs, 4 cats and 3 fish. She enjoys making stained glass and reading. She teaches Sunday School and has fun giving school talks related to the veterinary profession to young people.

Dr. Amy Allen

Veterinarian, DVM

Dr. Amy Allen is a Harnett County native and graduated from Western Harnett High School. She received her undergraduate degree in Animal Science from NC State, where she was active in the Pre-Veterinary and Animal Science Clubs. She earned her D.V.M. from NCSU, graduating from veterinary school in 1997. While in veterinary School she was a member of the Student Chapters of the AVMA and Association of Bovine Practitioners. She has been a staff veterinarian at Lillington Veterinary Hospital since 1998, having previously practiced in Rockingham, but has been an employee of Lillington Veterinary Hospital since her college days. Her hobbies are church softball and walking her eight pet dogs (yes, we said eight). She is a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers and her professional affiliations are with the AVMA and NCVMA.

Renee Adams

Receptionist

Our full time lead receptionist, Renee started work at LVH in 1995, which makes her almost a lifer! A native of angier, N.C., the nearest metropolis to Lillington, Renee worked for the NC DOT in Raleigh for 8 years prior to employment at our hospital. Renee always had a desire to work with animals, she currently runs her own pet-sitting company in addition to her work here. She has 3 dogs and 3 cats. She has been married since 1990 to a law enforcement officer who moonlights as a pro wrestler. Renee is the main squeeze at his wrestling events, and occasionally makes an appearance in the ring on his behalf. All these activities leave little time for much else besides her other love, softball.

Sheila Lewis

Head Veterinary Technician/Materials Management

Sheila was born in Catskill New York, but raised in Phoenix, Arizona, from the age of 6. She joined the Air Force in 1975 and was assigned to Pope AFB, NC as a Corrosion Control Specialist. She met her husband Bob, and had 3 children while in the Air Force-who said it couldn't be done-Sheila was a pioneer in this respect. She was honorably discharged in 1983 with the rank of Staff Sgt (E-5). After her 3 children began school, she started college at Central Carolina Community College, enrolled in the Veterinary Technology program. She graduated with honors in 1991 and received an Associated Degree in Applied Science. She passed the NC Veterinary Board exam to become a registered Veterinary Technician in June of 1991.
An active member of the NC Association of Veterinary Technincians, Sheila has been with the hospital since 1988. She supervises our hospital kennel and technical staff, devises our OSHA protocol, keeps track of the hospital inventories and is still the best with aiding the doctors!
She spends her free time keeping up with her pets (3 dogs, 4 cats, 4 ducks, 1 goose, 5 rabbits, and many fish) and attending CCCC working toward a degree in accounting. Flower gardening and remodeling her house are her favorite hobbies, along with keeping up with the active lives of her family. Obviously, Sheila has discovered the 30 hour day.
