Dr. Cathy A. Best

Veterinarian, DVM

Special Interest: Ultrasound

Dr. Cathy Best is originally from southeastern Pennsylvania. She came to Illinois to attend the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating from there in 1999. Cathy has been at SAVC since June of 2000. She is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Currently, Dr. Best has 3 cats and 2 dogs, and fight as never-ending battle to keep her spoiled critters from getting too fat.

Dr. Stephanie J. Deneke

Veterinarian, DVM

Dr. Deneke came to SAVC following her graduation from Iowa State University in 2005. She was born and raised in central South Dakota. She moved to Ames Iowa to obtain her undergraduate degree in Animal Science and Pre-Veterinary Medicine and then attend Iowa State University's College of Veterinary Medicine. She is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Personal interests include: golfing, boating and fishing. She has 1 loveable lab mix dog and 1 cranky and opinionated cat.

Dr. Sarah A. Smith

Veterinarian, DVM

Special Interest: Ultrasound & Orthopedic Surgery

Dr. Smith came to SAVC as a receptionist and then attended school to pursue her degree in Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, she came to practice at SAVC in March of 2004. We are thrilled to have Sarah back. Working up "through the ranks" has given Dr Smith customer based experience to match her medical skills. Sarah is well liked by our clientel for her warmth and her caring personality. She has a special interest in ultrasound and orthepedic surgery. Her pets include 3 dogs, Olivia, Falon and Loco.

Kelly Brent

Head Veterinary Technician

Kelly started at SAVC as Kennel Assistant and quickly came to work full time as a veterinary technician. As Head Technician she is responsible for the day to day duties of all the technicians as well as medical inventory and maintenance of the state of the art equipment that is available for your pets.

Michelle Bretscher

Originally from Springfield, Michelle moved to Southern Illinois in 1986 and returned in the fall of 1995. She joined the SAVC team in June of 1996 as a receptionist and has managed since 1997. Michelle recieved a BS from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and is currently pursuing an Associates Degree in Business Administration. Her family has a dog named Gunner, cats named Spike, Follower & Minnie, parakeets named Louie & Buddy and a hermit crab named Frank. Michelle is a member of the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association and an associate member of the American Animal Hospital Association from which she has recieved certificates of merit in veterinary management. She has founded the Lincoln Park Neighborhood Association and serves as Secretary. She is also a proud lifetime member of the Southern Illinois Alumni Association. Go Salukis!

Jessica Senalik

Practice Manager

Jessica started as a receptionist in September of 1996. She soon was promoted to Office Manager in May of 1999. In April 2006, Jessica accepted the position of Clinic Manager. She is now responsible for keeping the entire staff organized and ready to serve you with excellent customer service and the highest standards in veterinary medicine. Jessica is always available to handle any problems are questions you may have. She has 9 cats and a dog named Luckey at home.
