Dr. Sarah A Smith , DVM
Dr. Smith graduated from Purdue University in 1996. She traveled back to Springfield to pursue her interests in animal care and became a receptionist at our clinic. Shortly after that, she decided to obtain her degree in Veterinary Medicine. She attended Ross University on the island of St. Kitts and the University of Missouri and received her DVM in 2004. After graduation, she came back to practice at our clinic in March of that year. We are thrilled to have Sarah back. Working up "through the ranks" has given Dr. Smith customer-based experience to match her medical skills. She is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Sarah is well-liked by our clientel for her warmth and her caring personality. She has a special interest in ophthalmology and orthopedic surgery. Her pets include 5 cats and 1 dog named Loco.

Dr. Cathy A Best , DVM
Dr. Cathy Best is originally from southeastern Pennsylvania. She came to Illinois to attend the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating from there in 1999. Cathy has been at SAVC since June of 2000. She is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Currently, Dr. Best has 5 cats and 2 dogs, and fights a never-ending battle to keep her spoiled critters from getting too fat.

Dr. Melissa O'Brien , DVM
Dr. O'Brien is originally from Virden, IL. She received her undergraduate degree in Pre Veterinary Medicine from the University of Findlay in Findlay Ohio in 2002. She later returned to Illinois where she attended the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine and received her DVM in May of 2009. She is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association, American Veterinary Medical Association and the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. O'Brien has special interests in dermatology, orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation and wildlife medicine. Her pets include Piper, a very talkative and demanding black Labrador Retriever and Star, a yellow Labrador Retriever whose favorite summer activity is jumping off the diving board at the local swimming pool's "doggie swim day". Besides spending time with her spoiled Labs, Dr. O'Brien enjoys reading, dancing and shopping.

Staci D Slager , DVM
Dr. Slager grew up in Mt. Auburn with livestock and plenty of pets. She graduated from the University of Illinois for undergrad in 2003 and from vet school in 2007. From there she practiced in a mixed animal practice before moving back home to be closer to her family. Dr. Slager is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. She and her husband Matt were married in 2005 and have a son named Brandon. Other family members include a Golden Labrador and 3 cats! Dr. Slager enjoys spending time with her son and husband, reading, and spending time outdoors.

Kelly Brent
Clinic Manager
Kelly started working at our clinic in 1998 as the morning kennel assistant. She quickly developed a love for the buisiness and worked up through the ranks to become the Head Technician. Kelly has now taken on the role of our Clinic Manager and oversees all aspects of our clinic. She currently has her associates degree in Veterinary Technology. Kelly has 6 very spoiled cats and 1 very happy dog. Her interests include bike-riding, writing, watching movies, and spending time with her family.

Carla Tinsley
Head Technician
Carla originally came to our clinic as a veterinary technician in August of 2003. She left us in 2005 to pursue a career with the United States Postal Service. Carla's heart was still with our clinic and she returned in 2007. She has 1 beautiful daughter, a Saint Bernard named Belle, and a mixed breed named Roscoe. Carla also has 14 cats who "REIGN" over the household, and has just added 2 new ferret friends!

Client Service Manager
Jessica has been with our company since March of 2004. She excells in customer service and office management, and continues to provide our staff with the latest advancements in quality of client care. Jessica loves to spend time with her son, knitting, and crocheting.

Amber Tow
Boarding Manager
Amber first joined our team in December of 2006 as as customer service representative. She found a love for the career and continued to develop her skills as a veterinary technician. Amber has now returned to our team as our boarding manager. She has three dogs, Stewart, Jersey, and Durst. They share their home with the family cat, Tony. Amber enjoys shopping, traveling, and spending time with her friends, family, and pets. Stop in and get to know Amber while getting a tour of our state of the art medical and boarding facility!

Alisa Hinzman
Veterinary Technician
Alisa joined our technical team in July of 2011. She has been training in the veterinary field for 5+ years in IN, MO, and IL. She has experience with small animal, large animal, pocket pets and Avian. Alisa attended Ball State University for technical theater with a minor in music. She also graduated from East Central College with an Associates in Science. Currently she continues her education at Ashworth College in the animal care field. Alisa has 2 cats, Felix and Mika. She loves to read, sing, hike, and do volunteer work. She loves her family, including her very special husband, Nick. Come in and let Alisa give your pet the care it deserves!

Michelle Abeln
Veterinary Assistant
Michelle has been with our wonderful staff since december of 2011. She is skilled in the many arts of veterinary assistance and can consult with you for your pets needs. Michelle has a beautiful daughter and is married to her high school sweetheart. She has one dog named rambo and a cat named CC. Michelle attended Lincoln Land Community College and has a CNA certificate but quickly came to find she had a knack for caring for animals. She is currently seeking to become a certified veterinary technician. Michelle loves spending time with her family, hiking, camping, fishing, horseback riding and mushroom hunting.

Erin came to our practice in July of 2010 as a customer service representative. She has a great working knowledge in office related animal care and can tend to any questions you may have. Angie joined our staff in September of 2010. In her time with us she has shown great compassion for our clients and their pets. Angie enjoys camping and hiking. She is currently enrolled at Lincoln Land and is majoring in Geology. She also likes spending time with her 3 cats, Loki, Zues and Odin.

Kaley Wise
Client Service Representative
Kaley started her career at our veterinary hospital as a boarding assistant in November of 2011. After finding she had a wonderful talent for customer service she transferred to our front office in April of 2012. Kaley has 2 dogs named Blitz and Noah, and 2 rabbits named Binx and Bambi. She graduated from Lanphier High School in 2008 and then coached freshman volleyball there from 2008-2011. Kaley enjoys spending time with her friends and family, going to movies and shopping. Rachel joined our wonderful staff in October of 2009. She has one dog, and a cat that was abandoned that she adopted from our clinic.
