The Animal Rescue League of Iowa, Inc. is Iowa's largest nonprofit animal shelter and the only Des Moines area shelter that never turns away an animal in need.
The Animal Rescue League of Iowa is a nonprofit organization founded in 1926 dedicated to the welfare of animals. The ARL is Iowa’s largest animal shelter, caring for nearly 9,000 homeless, lost, abandoned and injured animals each year.
The ARL, which serves animals from across the state of Iowa, depends on private funds to provide services such as animal adoption; humane education; animal assisted therapy; pet behavior counseling and training; resident pets; and animal abuse intervention and prevention.
These programs, together with the ARL’s spaying and neutering program, work to reduce the number of homeless pets in Iowa. The ARL also works on legislative efforts, state and federal, to pass laws that improve the lives of all animals.
Finding your new best friend is easy online at the ARL's new web site! Whether you're looking for a dog, cat, rabbit or rat, you can search through our list of adoptable pets by size, age, species and breed. But be sure to come back often, as new lovable pets are added several times each week. You can find this feature by clicking on the link to our homepage in the Web Links section of this site!
