Description
|
BARC is a 501c3 not for profit, privately funded animal shelter for homeless dogs and cats located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We have been in existence for over 12 years. BARC receives no subsidies from the city or state and survives solely on the success of pet supply and grooming business and through donations. Our charges come from a variety of places: the street, police drop-offs, other shelters and rescurers, etc. Dogs and cats to be surrendered by their owners are put on awaiting list until space opens up. At present we have over 60 dogs & puppies and 200 cats & kittens of all ages, shapes, colors and tempermants for adoption. For the animals in it's care, BARC provides clean kennels and living spaces, high-quality food and ongoing medical attention. Each amimal that comes into the shelter is examined by the licensed veterinarian on the premises. All animals are vaccinated and dewormed. Cats are tested for feline leukemia and feline aids, dogs and tested for heartworm.
All animals are spayed or neutered if old enough prior to adoption. If the animal is a young pup or kitten we stay in touch until the procedure is done at which time we will require proof of spay/neuter surgery. We will not ship animals long distance.

Services
|
BARC is committed to finding the best homes for the animals in it's care. We spend a lot of time making sure that when an animal is adopted it is a good match for both the new owner and the animal. For people who live outside of the BARC neighborhood, we may require a visit to the new home prior ot adoption. We make follow-up visits as well, and will provide counseling to new adopters.
Potential adopters will need to fill out an adoption application and provide the following: two forms of identification, one with a photo and one with your present address , two personal references including a vet reference, and a adoption fee.
