Jeffrey J. Smith DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. Smith grew up hoping he could be a veterinarian one day. He had a keen interest in animals and made a hobby out of using live traps to catch and release native animals for many years as a boy. Jeff longed to have a horse, but was only able to ride on special occasions like birthdays and scouting pack trips. Boy Scouts was another favorite of his, and allowed him to learn a good deal about animals through merit badges like Rabbit Raising and Animal Husbandry on his way to becoming an Eagle Scout.

On his way through High School and College the future Dr. Smith worked summers as a cowboy on ranches in Wyoming. During the school year he worked as a tutor, farm hand on a Dairy, and as kennel worker in a veterinary clinic. One thing that many people do not know about Dr. Smith is that he has practiced karate for nearly twenty years and is currently a third degree blackbelt with the Japanese Karate Federation.

Dr. Smith graduated from Cornell University in 1986. He completed an internship in Thousand Oaks, California in 1987, and stayed on for another year as an associate. Before opening MAH in 1991, Dr. Jeff worked in a small animal clinic, in an equine practice, and in an emergency clinic.

Dr. Smith came to Middletown with the hope of building a veterinary hospital that the community could be proud of. Little by little he cleaned up the property, added staff and equipment, and built-up the reputation of the hospital. The mission of the hospital is simple: Provide the best possible care to each patient and client.
Dr. Smith places a high value on continuing education and medical technology in order to offer the best care possible. His biggest challenge on a day to day basis is to keep the small business running smoothly--- unfortunately that sometimes means cutting into his time as a veterinarian!

He is the oldest of five brothers; of the other four, two are surgeons, one is an attorney, and one is a Major in the US Army.
Dr. Smith is married to Sheri, who helps manage the practice, and who cares for their two boys, Connor, 4, and Trevor, 1. In their free time the Smiths enjoy riding their horses, family outings, and sporting activities.

Jeanna Clayburn

Receptionist

Jeanna is a receptionist since June of 2001 at Middletown Animal Hospital. As an empathetic person, she loves being around the animals but has a hard time with distancing herself from a heart wrenching situation like the loss of a pet. Jeanna’s favorite part about the job is seeing the relief on owners faces when they know their pet will be ok and in knowing that she is working with such competent and well educated Doctors.

Jeanna was raised in San Rafael and Crescent City and loved growing up at the ocean. Her 2 1/2 year old daughter Sara Jo is her pride and joy. Family and relatives are a big part of Jeanna’s life and she visits them frequently.

In her off time, Jeanna loves spending her time at the coast playing football with her boyfriend Charles Russ and chasing her daughter on the beach.

Katherine McGregor

Receptionist

Katherine is a full-time receptionist at Middletown Animal Hospital and joined our staff in October of 2001. She enjoys the people she works with and loves the small town atmosphere present in the practice and clientele alike.

A native of Benicia, CA, Katherine attended the Culinary Institute of America in San Francisco for 2 years before moving to Los Angeles where she worked in various vocations for 16 years. Katherine moved to Middletown in August of 2001 where she resides with her parents and her two children, ages 4 and 8. She has many animals including Molly the iguana, Jenna the Australian Shepherd, Mariah the Dalmatian mix, and Buster the cat.

Katherine’s hobbies include cooking, watching movies, dancing, and spending time with her children and animals.
