Nelson Animal Hospital has been in its current location for over 40 years. Combined with sister hospital Homestead, our Doctors have over 70 years of combined veterinary experience. Nelson Animal Hospital has become known as the "neighborhood vet". Our "homey" atmosphere comforts our clients and their pets. Clark Nelson DVM

Veterinarian

Colorado native of 49 years. BS Degree from Colorado College and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from CSU in 1979. From 1979 -1983 associate veterinarian in large 8 doctor hospital in Los Angeles. Twice honored by the California Academy of Veterinarians. 1983 to present Nelson Animal Hospital and Homestead Animal Hospital. Member: American Veterinary Medical Association, Denver Area Veterinary Medical Society. Served 3 terms on DAVMS Continuing Education Committee.

Jerry LaBonde MS, DVM

Veterinarian

Dr. LaBonde received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Northern Colorado followed by a Masters and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 1986. He had always wanted to develop a specialty in Avian Medicine and Surgery. Upon graduation he practiced with several of the country's top Avian specialists. After joining Nelson Animal Hospital in 1989, his Avian and Exotic clientele soon outgrew the facility and was transfered to Homestead Animal Hospital.(link to Homestead for further information).
Although Dr. LaBonde spends most of his time at Homestead Animal Hospital, he can occasionally be spotted at Nelson Animal Hospital.

Doug Bengford DVM

Veterinarian

A 41 year native of Colorado, Dr. Bengford graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Microbiology and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from CSU in 1986. Upon graduation he accepted a position with a large surgical practice in California. Dr.Bengford joined the staff of Nelson Animal Hospital in 1991. His special interests are in orthopedic and general surgery. Dr Bengford is the referral veterinarian for Colorado Doberman Rescue Association. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Colorado Veterinary Medical Association and Denver Area Veterinary Medical Society.
