Veterinary Technician
Russ Swisher is the staff technician at Noah's Ark Animal Hospital. He brings to the practice a well rounded knowledge of veterinary medicine and an unbridled enthusiasm for providing high quality care. Russ has been involved with animal care for thirteen years. He was a zookeeper at Busch Gardens, Tampa , where he gained experience in wild and exotic animals from all over the world such as large reptiles, big cats, primates, birds, fish and hoof stock. He was head veterinary technician at Community Animal Hospital, and oversaw the operation of one of the largest boarding kennels in the Tampa area for 5 years. He has gained experience in emergency veterinary medicine at the Animal Emergency Clinic of Brandon, where he learned from some of the area's top veterinarians. From there, he moved to Gainesville, Florida where he was head surgical technician at Suburban Animal Hospital, a high volume, cutting edge surgical center that worked in conjunction with the surgeons of the University of Florida. He has been presented with awards for his knowledge of small animal clinical nutrition, and was an invited speaker at the 1991 Florida Veterinary Medical Conference where he lectured on the role of the veterinary technician in the critical care setting. He then returned to the Brandon area and continued his career at Care Animal Hospital. He was instrumental in the opening of Care Animal Hospital's West Coast Regional Surgicare Center for Horses in 1994 where he served as head surgical technician for 2 years.
Away from the clinic, Russ is the single father of a seven year old boy
