Dr. Rosanne Brown

Owner/Veterinarian

Dr. Rosanne Brown received her degree from Colorado State University of Veterinary Medicine in 1984. After graduating, she moved to San Diego California. She has owned and operated Rancho San Diego Animal Hospital (RSDAH) since 1988. During her career, she has studied extensively in the area of exotic animal medicine and surgery to include reptiles, birds, rabbits, ferrets, guinea pigs, chinchillas, rodents, and other small mammals. She also continues to stay well informed on current medicine and surgery in dog and cat medicine as well. Dr. Brown was on the executive board of the San Diego County Veterinary Medical Association for over five years and was president of the association in 1994. She continues to organize the Annual Exotic Animal Conference held in San Diego each year.

Dr. Katie Kangas

Veterinarian

Dr. Katie Kangas is a native of Wisconsin and a 1993 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Veterinary Medical School. She began practicing in a busy small animal hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin until 1995 when she moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains as the intern veterinarian at the Wildlife Center of Virginia. (This is the same Wildlife Center that currently broadcasts on the Animal Planet channel as "Wildlife ER"). In 1997, Dr. Kangas and her husband Chris moved to San Diego, CA and in 1998 she joined the staff of Rancho San Diego Animal Hospital. Here she is very happy to work with such a variety of "exotic" animals, as well as dogs and cats, and injured local wildlife. Dr. Kangas and her husband enjoy San Diego and the many accessible outdoor activities it has to offer, but football Sundays are spent indoors cheering for the Green Bay Packers.

Dr. Suzanne Peterson

Dr. Peterson is a graduate of U.C. Davis. She started st the practice in 2000.

Dr. Janet Loken

Veterinarian

Dr. Loken has been a member of the practice since 2000.

Diane

Veterinary Technician

Hi! My name is Diane and this is my dog Bree. I'm a registered veterinary technician and head technician at Rancho San Diego Animal Hospital. When I began my veterinary career at age 15, I had no idea the incredible things I'd learn. Since I joined this team, I've seen some fabulous things. Snakes, hawks, bobcats. . . . you name it, we'll help it. My favorite part of this job is assisting the doctor in surgery and monitoring the patients while they are asleep. My particular interests include anesthesiology and pharmacology. At home, I spend my time with Bree, my Jack Russell Terrier, a cockatiel named Zappa, two Sulcata tortoises Kalahari and Shakobi, and a plethora of fish.

Marianne

Veterinary Technician

My name is Marianne and I'm a registered veterinary technician. I've worked here since March 1996 and I couldn't imagine a better place to work. We have a great team and always work with the animal's best interest at heart. I really enjoy the variety and unique challenges that working at an exotic animal hospital brings. I also volunteer with Project Wildlife, a local wildlife rescue group. I'm Team Leader for the pigeon and dove team, which means I do home care for injured and sick birds, hand raise babies, train new volunteers and offer support to team members. The most rewarding part is releasing them back to the wild, giving them that second chance they may not otherwise had. So I stay pretty busy. As my husband would say, my life revolves around animals. I wouldn't want it any other way.

Jessica

Veterinary Technician

Hi. I'm Jessica. I am a registered veterinary technician (RVT). Working at this hospital is very exciting because of all the exotic animals we work with . . . and we still see lots of cats and dogs. I love all the animals. I have horses, 5 cats, 3 mice, 2 rats, 2 ferrets and a newt. Being an RVT is such a rewarding experience in so many ways. I learn something new every day . . . and I work with a fantastic medical team in a wonderful hospital!

Aimee

Hospital Manager

Problem solving is the clock that makes me tick. My God-given "gift of gab" is the core of my position. My compassion for the well being and understanding of animals is the icing on my cake. In my spare time I manage the upbringing of my three wonderful children ages 18, 17 and 15. I have been involved with dog sports; Schutzhund, confirmation, flyball, and animal rescue for the past 15 years. Dogs with attitudes are my specialty. My two Jack Russels are my boyfriends; they share me equally and enjoy keeping me warm at night.
